With more than 25 years of experience spanning finance, investments, analytics, and technology, Dr. Vikash Raj has built a career defined by curiosity, continuous learning, and transformation. From his early work with leading organisations such as ICRA Online, CRISIL, and Citibank to senior leadership roles in asset management, his journey reflects a rare ability to connect financial expertise with emerging technologies.
Today, as CEO of Investigen.ai, Dr. Raj is focused on taking this evolution further through Growth Intelligence, bringing together data, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and business decision-making to help organisations identify opportunities and turn intelligence into measurable growth. His journey from Physics and finance to analytics and AI offers a compelling perspective on how technology can move beyond reporting what happened to helping businesses understand what to do next.
BACKGROUND & JOURNEY
Q. Tell us about yourself, your professional journey, and your personal background?
My career has been a journey across finance, investments, analytics, and technology. Over 25 years, I have worked with organisations such as ICRA Online, CRISIL, and Citibank, and have held leadership roles in the asset-management industry, including Head–Products & Planning and CEO of IDFC Pension Fund. I currently head Business Analytics & Process Engineering at Bandhan Asset Management.
What makes the journey interesting is how my focus has evolved—from investment research and financial products to data, analytics, predictive modelling, and AI. Academically too, I have followed this intersection. I started with Physics, moved into Business Finance, studied Business Analytics at IIM Calcutta, and eventually completed a PhD researching the growth of mutual funds in India. At heart, I am curious by nature. I enjoy understanding how things work and, more importantly, finding ways to make them work better.
Q. What inspired you to pursue this industry?
Finance fascinated me because it combines numbers, human behaviour, and uncertainty.
Very early in my career, I realised that financial decisions involve enormous amounts of information. I became interested in whether technology and analytics could help turn that information into better decisions. That curiosity took me from financial research to products, analytics, and eventually AI.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Q. What do you consider your most significant achievements?
I would say the biggest achievement has been reinventing myself with every major technology wave. I have worked on financial research platforms, investment products, data warehouses, business-intelligence systems, predictive models, and AI-driven solutions.
Writing my book Business Analytics & Financial Planning was another milestone because it brought together my interests in finance, analytics, modelling, and AI. I have also been fortunate to receive recognition such as the IDC Best in Future of Intelligence Award and Analytics India Magazine’s 100 Most Influential AI Leaders Award, among others. But ultimately, I measure success by whether something I build solves a real problem and creates measurable value.
CHALLENGES & LEARNINGS
Q. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge has been staying relevant in an industry where technology changes incredibly fast. What worked five years ago may not work today. So I have constantly had to learn, unlearn, and reinvent myself. I have also learnt that building technology is often easier than getting people to trust and adopt it.
My biggest lesson has therefore been:
“Technology creates possibilities, but adoption creates impact.”
INNOVATION & VISION
Q. What is your vision for the future of your business and the industry?
I believe we are moving through the next major evolution of enterprise intelligence:
Business Intelligence → Analytics → Predictive AI → Generative AI → Growth Intelligence.
For years, businesses have invested in dashboards that tell them what happened. AI can now help explain why it happened and what might happen next.
The next step is helping organisations answer:
Where is the opportunity? What should I do? Can I act on it? And did it create growth?
That is the idea behind Investigen and our focus on Growth Intelligence—connecting data, AI, decision-making, and action to create measurable business outcomes.
Q. What are you looking forward to accomplishing most in 2026?
My biggest ambition for 2026 is to take Growth Intelligence from an idea to a real, enterprise-grade category and platform.
Through Investigen, I want to demonstrate that AI can go beyond dashboards and chatbots to actually help businesses identify opportunities, make better decisions, take action, and measure the resulting growth. If we can achieve that at scale, it would be a very meaningful milestone.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Q. Anything else you’d like to share with readers?
My career has taken me from Physics to finance, investments, analytics, and AI. Looking back, the common thread has been curiosity. I have always believed that the moment you stop learning is the moment you start becoming obsolete.
We now have more data and technology than ever before. The real challenge is turning that abundance into better decisions and meaningful outcomes.
If I had to leave readers with one thought, it would be:
Data tells us what we know. Intelligence tells us what it means. Growth Intelligence tells us what to do about it.
That is the journey I am now pursuing with Investigen.ai.
